Heritage Festival at Ames Plantation
For more than 20 years, Ames Plantation’s annual Heritage Festival brings history to life every October.
The festival recreates life as it was in the 1800s, featuring more than 150 presenters and artisans showcasing skills, music and more that were popular during the time period. Kids can join in the fun too, with activities including picking cotton and milking goats.
The festival takes place at Ames’ Heritage Village, which resembles a 19th-century settlement, complete with log cabins and a one-room schoolhouse. Visitors can also walk to the Civil War camp nearby to witness artillery demonstrations and cannon blasts at the top and bottom of each hour.
