Camp Woodlee
At Camp Woodlee outside of McMinnville, youth are getting back to nature. You won’t find campers staring at cell phone screens, but rather engaging in hands-on activities, such as learning to make rope or how to play the ukulele.
Founded in 1951 by Tennessee 4-H camping specialist Fred Colby, Camp Woodlee has a mission to instill a love of nature and build lifetime relationships, focusing on experiential learning, healthy relationships and connecting with nature. Many of Tennessee’s agricultural youth already involved in FFA or 4-H attend the camp, strengthening their relationship with the land by trekking through the woods or swimming in natural creeks. Even the camp’s educational lessons are taught in a natural setting such as in the shade of a pine grove.
