Discover the Murals of Manchester, TN
Many people may know Manchester because of Bonnaroo, but it’s so much more. It’s also home to a blossoming public arts scene that made its debut last year with artist Tara Aversa’s “Manchester Magnolia” mural.
Within five months, four murals were completed, and more are underway. Wind your way around downtown Manchester and the Little Duck River Greenway to spot the flower and flag, the postcard, the gem-bright dragonfly and the jewel-toned American eel. Plus, along the greenway, look for the hand-lettered #lovescript sayings by artist Lauryn Ashby.
“We’re all about bringing love and joy to the community through public art,” Kristin Luna says. The vision and momentum behind this mural network started with Luna and her husband, Scott van Velsor. Their company, DMA-events, spearheads mural funding and management.
You’ll soon be able to travel the DMA Mural Trail through Manchester into other nearby communities, too. With art like this (not to mention craft shops, Old Stone Fort State Park and the celebrated Jiffy Burger, located right next to the postcard mural), there’s no reason to wait until Bonnaroo to visit.
