Why You Should Visit Apple Barn Cider Mill & General Store and Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant in Sevierville
Nothing says “autumn” like biting into a juicy, fresh-picked apple. Just about everything you can make with an apple can be found at the Apple Barn Cider Mill & General Store and Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant in Sevierville.
Apples that are featured on the restaurant menu and sold in the general store come from more than 4,000 trees on the property. Owner Bill Kilpatrick planted the first apple trees in 1976. Bill’s son, Kevin, says the general store stocks fresh apples from late August through Christmas, with about 30 different varieties rotating throughout the season. The sweet, “eating” apples, such as Fuji, Pink Lady and Cameo are popular, while the Mutsu (a cross between Golden Delicious and Indo) is their most requested apple, according to Kevin. The general store also carries apple cider, fried apple pies, apple butter, applewood-smoked hams and bacon, and a wide range of apple-themed items year round.

Patrons at the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant are treated to complimentary apple fritters with apple butter made on the farm and an apple julep. Kevin says fried chicken is the restaurant’s most popular dish, although the restaurant is also well- known for its chicken and dumplings. Located in the original farmhouse on the Kilpatrick property, visitors can enjoy their meal on the patio or inside the dining room, which overlooks rolling farmland. Locals and tourists alike report that the restaurant is the best value in the Smokies, as each meal comes with soup, a side and dessert.
Sevierville is located about 10 miles north of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in the country. Kevin says seeing the park is a “must” when traveling in the area – he recommends hiking trails, fishing and camping in the park. The Dollywood theme park in nearby Pigeon Forge is another popular attraction for families. “It’s just a good area for vacationing,” says Kevin, who notes that the majority of their customers are travelers, too. “Most of our visitors are from the southeastern part of the country, but we get visitors from all 50 states every year.”
