From the cheese on your burger to the milk in your ice cream, dairy plays a delicious role in so many of the foods we all love to enjoy in the summer. The beginning of the season also welcomes the annual celebration of National Dairy Month in June. Also known as June Dairy Month, the tradition began back in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk and increase consumer demand for milk during the time of peak production in the summer. Today, June Dairy Month continues promoting the industry and honoring the hardworking producers who supply our milk, cheese, yogurt and more.

Home to over 180 registered dairies, Tennessee takes part in the tradition every June with events, parades and festivals held in communities across the state. But even if you don’t make it out to a celebration this year, there’s no better way to pay tribute to Tennessee dairy farmers than by using their farm-fresh products in your own kitchen.

In honor of June Dairy Month, we’re highlighting five recipes made with delicious dairy. From appetizers to desserts, these recipes feature a range of dairy products alongside some of the freshest fruits and vegetables the season has to offer, including cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, watermelon and peaches. So, raise a glass of milk to the summertime and get cooking with farm-fresh dairy.
