Though most cranberries hail from the North, we seem to have no trouble finding them at our Tennessee grocery stores this time of year. But don’t take them for granted while they’re fresh and in season. You might be able to find dried cranberries all year round, but the ruby, plump, fresh-from-the-bog beauties are here but for a moment.
Over the years, I have made a habit of freezing a couple bags of cranberries when they’re at their best. The sturdy little buggers can withstand a long stint in the freezer, ensuring fresh cranberries throughout the year. However, they do lose a touch of their perfection. After several months, they tend to get dark spots, lose their bright flavor and shrivel when thawed. Alas … enjoy them now!
