Quotes from the Summitt

35 Comments By

While iconic basketball coach Pat Summitt made history on the court, she viewed herself first and foremost as an educator. Raised on a dairy farm in Clarksville, she learned the value of hard work at a young age while working alongside her three older brothers on the farm. She went on to teach this work ethic and discipline to each of her student-athletes while winning eight national championships, achieving a 100% graduation rate and becoming the all-time winningest coach in any sport, men or women, in NCAA history.

Summitt, who passed away in 2016, left a legacy that continues to inspire athletes everywhere. Her gift for offering advice and wisdom forms the basis of a new book, Quotes from the Summitt, which provides inspiration in the form of Summitt’s quotes and includes many written in her own handwriting.

My family has bled orange since the turn of the last century – my great aunt was the first to graduate and I often wear the jewelry she received at graduation. Uncle Red Matthews was a cheerleader and part of the early engineering program. Uncle Bill Barton was quite involved with the night school program. Pat Summit will always represent the best of UT and reading her wisdom would be a joy. GO VOLS!

I enjoy the Tennessee Home & Farm magazine and read it cover to cover when it comes in the mail. I try to patronize the contributors and advertisers when possible. I also admired Pat Summitt and the fact that she accomplished not only basketball championships, but a 100% graduation rate! That was incredible! I hope to enjoy this read!
