Grand Prize Winner: Hannah and Johnathan Purdy, Oakland, Tenn.

Hannah Purdy has loved taking photos since she was a teenager, but it seems that everyone knew this particular photo was award-worthy.
“One of my friends saw this photo and told me I should enter it into a contest,” says Purdy. “She was the first one I emailed when I found out we won.”

The Fayette County Farm Bureau member snapped the photo of her 2-year-old son around Easter on her sister-in-law’s large piece of property.

“We put the chair out on the porch and were trying to find a good spot for it,” says Purdy. “It was really cold that day. My son didn’t want to hold the chicken, just look at it. It was the first photo I took, and it came out really well.”

Purdy and her husband, Johnathan, entered the photo after hearing comments from everyone on how cute it was.

“We actually forgot we had entered, so we were so excited when we found out that we had won,” Purdy says.

This year’s judges at Journal Communications, the publisher of this magazine, felt Purdy’s photo captured a candid moment showcasing Tennessee farm life.
