Located along Factory Creek in Belvidere, Falls Mill has lived a lot of lives since it was built in 1873. Over time, it has been as a cotton and woolen factory, a cotton gin, a woodworking shop and a gristmill.

Today, Falls Mill is home to the Museum of Power and Industry, Inc., which features exhibits on three levels of the mill that focus on its textile history and a 32-foot waterwheel that still provides power. That power was used to grind grits and cornmeal up until 2015. The grain products, which also include whole-wheat flour and multigrain pancake mix, are now custom-ground by Logan Turnpike Mill in Blairsville, Georgia, but they’re still sold at the museum, along with handwoven pieces made by museum members.

The mill is open to the public from April through mid-December on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (931) 469-7161 or visit fallsmill.com.

Grew up with fresh cornmeal and flour ground from our farm, and fresh-milled is hard to find these days — glad to know about this mill!

I could simply use the food! My cupboards are kinda bare (surviving on a disability check doesn’t make it easy, heh), and corn bread is always something that helps fill the tummy as well as supplies nutrients, tastes good and is easy for an idiot-in-the-kitchen biker like me to make in my cast iron skillet, lol.

My mom used to take me here when I was a kid. See also grew up in the house that the owners moved there and is now their home. It used to be a stagecoach stop way back when. Falls Mill has always held a special place in my heart.
