2020 Photo Contest Winner Captures a Special Family Moment on the Farm
Claiborne County middle school teacher Amanda Headrick first became interested in photography after her daughter, Hadley Headrick, was born. She started taking photos to document Hadley’s childhood while capturing special family moments over the years.
Amanda’s photo of Hadley sitting on her grandfather’s lap in the seat of his tractor was selected as the grand prize winner among hundreds of impressive entries in the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation’s 2020 photo contest.
The evening Amanda snapped the photo, she had been taking a few posed pictures of her daughter and father together on her parents’ Union County farm. This particular photo, however, was entirely unplanned.
“That’s what made it special to me, because it was totally candid,” Amanda says. “It wasn’t the perfect photo; the other pictures were a lot nicer – but it was the perfect moment. I felt like it showed that special bond between a grandparent and a grandchild.”
Amanda’s parents, Rocky and Gail Walker, grow vegetables, raise cattle and collect antique tractors on their farm in Sharps Chapel, Tennessee, which has been in the Walker family for more than 100 years.
