During the first weekend in October, pumpkin, watermelon and squash growers descend on the tiny town of Allardt (population 614) in Fentress County to compete for cash prizes for the biggest homegrown fruits and vegetables. The 2023 event, slated for Saturday, Oct. 7, marks the festival’s 32nd year.

Other highlights of the event include a parade, an antique tractor show, a children’s costume contest, a homemade pumpkin pie contest, a Pumpkin Run and a fireworks display. The festival also features craft and food vendors offering everything from quilts to homemade desserts.
